Comfort Socks Newsletter - February 2012 - Socks for the Homeless
Even the Wind Wears Socks
Comfort Socks is proud, once again, to provide socks for the Veterans Standown that will be held in Wilmington in April. Since we started we have not missed one year yet. Thank you CS supporters - for without you - we could not have given the gift of comfort to our Veterans who live on the street. Did you know that 20% of the street homeless are Vetera
ns? (source: National Coalition for the Homeless).
Of all the boxes sent out this month, the ones delivered to the Church of the Common Ground in Atlanta, GA had a piece of my heart once again - What a amazing thing this church does Every Monday for the homeless. They wash their feet, and provide new socks and shoes. Wonderful, simply wonderful, and Comfort Socks is proud to be a part of this tender, caring act of love.
"It's a decision to help another person" were the words spoken to the fine young middle school students of Charter Day School of the Roger Bacon Academy. The Big Picture Class collected about 500 pairs of socks - but to be honest
- they collected much more than that. They collected the knowledge that a small thing to one person is a big thing to another. They collected confidence that their Decision brought another person warmth, comfort and love. Who would have thought that socks could do so much? We do, and we hope you too will act as your heart beckons you - just like these caring students did. Thank you, Charter Day School, for allowing Comfort Socks to plant a seed of purpose in your students and hope for the lost and hurting of America. It was an experience I will not easily forget, and hope, Charter Day School, you feel the same.
Socks on Sunday Still Going Strong - Sign up your church or Synagogue today We were so blessed by the Socks on Sunday event held at Zion Baptist Church of Ash, NC. Not only by the socks they collected but by the note inside the bag. They wrote "We attended our service in our stocking feet - It was a very moving and humbling experience for us". Now that's what we are talking about - the heart behind the socks. Thank you, Zion Baptist, for hearing our call. Want to bless somebody? Why not speak to your church or Synagogue to hold a Socks on Sunday or Sabbath Sock Day event http://comfortsocksonline.org/pdfs/SocksOnSundayFlyer.pdf
A Great Big Thank You to
our Sock Collectors
What an amazing day Saturday Feb 4th was! Comfort Socks had the honor of to speak to the Woman's to Woman's group at Old Shallotte Baptist Church. We shared a lovely lunch, a spirit filled room, and receptive souls to our mission. So many socks, we have yet to count them - as well as a monetary gift ended the day but not the dedication of these tremendously caring women. We truly were blessed!
Another Great Reception for the Comfort Socks mission was held by the Ladies of the Holden Beach Chapel. Delicious deserts, warm mens socks and a welcome feeling allowed our purpose to be shared in a special way. We look forward to enjoying the presence of these lovely ladies of the Lord again soon.
Supply Elementary Does It Again for Comfort Socks – What an unbelievable collection of faculty – they never let us down. Thank You All – Students and Families for all you do.
Dolores, please accept my personal heartfelt ‘Thank You’ for allowing me to address the Brunswick Plantation Community. The Non- Profit Organization Neighbors in Service of Brunswick Plantation absolutely outdid themselves. It’s obvious so much effort went into collecting socks, asking each section of the community to hang the socks on their mailboxes, and then picking them up. The results were more than I imagined, and my smile just compounded as bag after bag of mens socks kept being brought out – So happy and proud to be associated with this group of wonderful woman. We do not have a final count yet – but will fill you in when we do. What a happy day for Comfort Socks and the homeless men that will receive the gift of warm, comfortable socks of love.
Tender thoughts to Miss Bunny - for always remembering us - Miss Bunny donates about a dozen socks every month - she says 'this is part of my tithe' and I'll tell you - I am so touched by that. Do you not realize that every sock matters? Please never hold back from your giving because you may feel it is not enough to matter. Miss Bunny's heart is moving mountains - and I thank the Lord He has brought her to care for our mission.

Comfort Socks is so grateful for our supporters. Encouragement comes in the form of phone calls, facebook interaction, donations of resources and socks. I know many of you enjoy reading about those who help, and seeing all the pictures of the smiles with socks - and we enjoy sharing the pleasure side of our mission too - but please, let us not forget why we are here. For every smile you see, there are many more people who do not have a smile to share. I encourage you today to visit our donation page at http://comfortsocksonline.org/donatehere.asp or send your donation to our PO Box 477 Supply, NC 28462. We appreciate your help so much but those you have helped by your support are grateful in a way they cannot express. We have the honor to thank you for them. God Bless You
Sincerely,
Theresa Tese - Comfort Socks Founder
